Herb Name: Mullein

Folk Names: Great Mullien, Lady's Foxglove, Blanket herb, Flannel Plant, Candlewick Plant, Hag's Taper, Velvet Dock, Velvet Plant, Clown's Lung-wort, Torches, Jacob's Staff, Aaron's Rod 

Scientific Name: Verbascum Thapsus

Planting: Biennial, compact growth, frost resistance, tall - over 90cm, medium water, grows from seed, likes the sun.

Where to Find It: Mullein grows abundantly in a variety of open areas, including: Natural meadows Forest openings Neglected pastures Sunny banks Along roadsides It thrives in sunny, undisturbed locations and can often be found in dry, well-drained soils.

Flowering Time: Late spring early summer
 

Harvesting Your Bounty: Wait for the second year when Mullein stands tall with blooms. This is when its leaves are most potent. Pick the vibrant green leaves on a dry morning to capture their full essence. Spread them out in a cool, shadowy place for drying, turning them over to ensure they dry evenly. Once dry, store them away from light to preserve their goodness.

Folk Medicine: Mullein has been a go-to remedy for centuries, and for good reason! Its leaves and flowers are packed with anti-inflammatory and soothing goodness, making it a favorite for tackling pesky respiratory issues like coughs, bronchitis, and asthma.
